As The Billfish Foundation prepares for the next chapter of the SoFlo Sailfish Initiative at the very beginning of 2027, we’re inviting that same energy into an effort everyone can help build.
We’re looking for donors, sponsors, partners, restaurants, venues and ocean enthusiasts ready to help advance sailfish research. Whether you can fund a satellite tag, host a dinner or sponsor the project, your involvement can help this project grow.
The science starts with a question: Where do sailfish go after the release?
Launched in 2024, the initiative brings together TBF, the University of Southern Mississippi, Bluewater Movements and participating fishing teams to study sailfish movements and habitat use. Satellite tags record information such as depth, water temperature and light levels, helping researchers better understand where sailfish travel and how they use their environment. These insights can inform conservation and fisheries management. Explore the research behind the initiative.
In 2027, we want more of South Florida to be part of that story.
We’re seeking community partners to help bring people together through happy hours, dinners, fundraising events and other gatherings that connect a shared love of the ocean with opportunities to support research.
Help make the next chapter possible:
- Fund a satellite tag. Donate toward a tag or bring friends, colleagues or your fishing team together to sponsor one. Supporting satellite tagging is a direct way to help expand the research.
- Host a gathering. Have a restaurant, bar, marina, club or event space? Let’s explore a happy hour, dinner or fundraiser that fits your community.
- Become a sponsor or partner. Support the broader initiative through funding, resources, services or event collaboration.
- Make a connection. Introduce us to a potential donor, venue or business—or share the project with someone who would love to get involved.
You don’t need to own a boat or fish a tournament to help shape the future of sailfish research. There’s room for the people who love catching these fish, the businesses that serve our waterfront communities and everyone who wants to help care for the ocean.
