Where Competition Meets Conservation

Every season, anglers competing in the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series battle for championship titles, impressive purses, and the coveted Burgundy Jacket. Thanks to our partnership with Fish Bluewater, one winning team also earns something far more lasting: the opportunity to leave a legacy for billfish conservation.

As part of the Sailfish Challenge, the tournament champions are invited to join The Billfish Foundation on an exclusive satellite tagging expedition through TBF’s Tag and Release Program. Guided by TBF scientists, the winning crew deploys a satellite tag that bears their team’s name, directly contributing valuable scientific data that helps researchers better understand sailfish movements, habitat use, and behavior.

This year’s Sailfish Challenge champions, Priceless, earned that opportunity after an incredible come from behind victory during one of the series’ most competitive events. Captained by Jorge Sanchez, the Coral Gables based team secured the championship in dramatic fashion, earning not only tournament honors but the chance to make a lasting contribution to billfish science.

The partnership between TBF and Fish Bluewater represents a shared belief that the future of competitive fishing depends on healthy billfish populations. By connecting tournament anglers with hands on conservation, the program transforms a tournament victory into something much bigger than a trophy. It gives anglers the opportunity to participate directly in the research shaping the future of the sport they love.

Later this year, the crew aboard Priceless will join TBF scientists in the field to deploy their satellite tag, adding another important piece to the growing body of research that supports sustainable billfish fisheries around the world.

We’re proud to continue working alongside Fish Bluewater to bridge the gap between competition and conservation, proving that every tournament has the potential to create an impact long after lines out.
