Kicking Plastic and Billfish Education at Costa’s Conservation Village

For the second year in a row, Costa Sunglasses hosted their Conservation Village in the Miami International Boat Show to educate showgoers about ocean conservation and encourage them to help out in the fight to #KickPlastic!

The Village began with ocean research and advocacy groups from all over Florida, which shared the important message of ocean stewardship. Adults and students alike flowed through the tent, learning how they can make simple changes in their lives to help safeguard the health of oceans, humans and animals that rely on them. Throughout the weekend, The Billfish Foundation educated hundreds of visitors on our current conservation work and the positive impact made by the recreational fishing community!

Costa’s primary conservation thrust highlighted their Kick Plastic Campaign, which aims to educate about the dangers of plastic pollution in oceans and encourage the use of more sustainable materials. As a part of this, Costa installed filtered-water refill stations throughout the Village and the entire show, selling reusable 24-ounce aluminum bottles to converts. These initiatives were very successful, with showgoers having refilled thousands of reusable bottles, eliminating the use of over 8,000 plastic bottles!

The Billfish Foundation is a longtime supporter of Costa’s Kick Plastic campaign. We use our two youth publications and numerous outreach events to help further the message, and we truly believe in the importance of coming together as an industry to help protect the oceans that we all rely upon.
