NOAA Fisheries has officially opened its Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Art Contest, inviting students from kindergarten through eighth grade to showcase their creativity while learning about some of the ocean’s most iconic species.
Each year, this national contest highlights Atlantic highly migratory species such as billfish, tunas, swordfish, and sharks, and their vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Winning artwork is featured in an official NOAA Fisheries calendar, distributed nationwide.
At The Billfish Foundation, we’re especially excited to encourage submissions that spotlight billfish species, including marlin and sailfish. These incredible fish are not only symbols of offshore sportfishing but also important indicators of ocean health, making them powerful subjects for young artists to explore through art.
- Who can enter: Students in grades K–8
- Submission deadline: March 31, 2026
- What’s at stake: Winning artwork featured in a NOAA Fisheries calendar
This contest is a fun and meaningful way for students to combine creativity with ocean conservation, helping raise awareness about the importance of protecting highly migratory species for future generations.
