The Billfish Foundation’s 2021 Tag & Release Awards Ceremony took place on February 12th on Facebook Live. Like our 2020 Gala, the Awards Ceremony was virtual due to COVID-19. While we missed seeing all of our award winners in person, we loved the opportunity to engage with our less local constituents who would not normally be able to attend the ceremony, but logged in to enjoy the online festivities with us. The Awards Ceremony kicked off with a weeklong online raffle wherein participants could purchase items from TBF’s online shop, shop.billfish.org, to earn raffle tickets. Passing of a Legend – Capt. Ron Hamlin

Hamlin was recognized not only for his expertise at placing anglers from all over the world on billfish, but also for his contributions to billfish conservation. His expertise at the helm won him awards year after year, including the Billfish Foundation’s Top Captain Award, for which he stopped competing. After landing billfish for years during the early part of his career, he later recognized that continuation of his profession depended upon the availability of healthy stocks of fish in the water for clients to catch. He turned to catch and release fishing and became a voice for billfish conservation
