The Billfish Foundation and Bluefin Data were recently showcased on EM4Fish, a website that aims to improve fisheries management as emerging technologies enable new methods for acquiring, sharing, analyzing, and utilizing data. As part of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) Electronic Monitoring and Reporting Grant Program, Bluefin Data (BFD) and The Billfish Foundation (TBF) were awarded a grant focused on streamlining electronic reporting and acquiring new data to support billfish conservation efforts.

Titled, “Projects in the Field: Integrating a Billfish Angler Tagging Reporting Program within Regulatory Reporting Requirements”, the article dives into the project itself, highlighting electronic logbook reporting, the partnership between BFD and TBF, and the conservation benefits of implementing such an application.

As part of the grant itself, BFD and TBF have attended a number of workshops focused on raising awareness of the project and highlighting how the benefits of the work being done has the potential to set the standard for data collection moving forward. Both Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club and Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club were gracious enough to invite us to discuss the project with their club members and the public and provide an opportunity for us to have real conversations with the sportfishing community. As the official launch of the application nears, we at TBF could not be more excited to get started, and want to thank all those involved for helping turn this idea into a reality.
